Gametart Online Xbox 360 | Playstation PS3 | Nintendo Wii | PC Games Rentals | Free Games Trial
March 29, 2008
Gametart has been a consistent winner since starting up in May 2004, and is our top recommendation for Playstation PS2 and PS3 owners, stocking every title out released. They claim to be the UK’s top games rental company and we agree - they have a great selection of stock and when we tried out the trial we received all the latest titles for both the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii. Gametart’s distinctive red and black website includes a basic search engine and allows browsing by their thousands of video game titles through 13 genres. One of our favourite features is the ‘on hold’ system which allows customers to reserve a game that they really want while they are returning a current rental.
Instructions for rental games are emailed to the customer and turnaround times between games are reputedly excellent. They claim that 98% of the time your game will arrive the next day, though as ever this largely depends on the Royal Mail’s efficiency. We particularly like that you can suspend your account, say if you’re going on holiday or have a busy stretch at work or exams; not all companies have this facility, and their indefinite suspension policy can certainly save money in these cases.
We have heard minor complaints about Gametart limiting the rental queue to ten titles. This has now been remedied and you may now have up to 20 titles in your queue. Gametart have expanded beyond their PS2 specialization of a couple years back and boast over 1700 unique titles, supporting all major consoles except the Xbox, Gamecube, and Gameboy Advance. They stock 1600+ game titles for PS2, 100+ for XBox 360, 100+ for the Wii, 700+ for XBox and 300+ for PSP, 400+ for the GameCube, and 80+ so far for the PS3. Like most of the online games rental companies they don’t offer a customer service phone number.
So beware of slow response to customer emails, which may cause problems if you want to cancel a subscription. Prices: Game Tart offer two simple price plan options, and are the only major game rental company to charge by the week instead of the month. Price are £2.99 a week for 1 game at-a-time (unlimited) and £3.99 a week for 2 games at-a-time (unlimited) which will be charged every 28 days.
New subscribers will automatically be assigned to the 1 game at a time trial. For comparison, these price structures represent an equivalent of £12.96 a month for 1 game at-a-time and £17.29 per calender month for 2 games at-a-time.
